It is also known as a Phase tester (as it checks current in a phase), Screwdriver tester (as it is primarily a screw driver and also a tester), Neon Screwdriver (as it has a neon bulb), Test Pin (as the blade is a shape of a pin).

Do not deal with electricity without proper guidance or care. Do not touch an open wire even if the tester shows absence of phase. Use the tester only on 100v-500v. Do not hit with or on the handle of the tester as it may damage the neon bulb or the element. Never work on live equipment and if in any doubt, contact a qualified electrician.
